A: Community Action Agencies (CAAs) are nonprofit private and public organizations established under the Economic Opportunity Act of 1964 to fight America's War on Poverty. Community Action Agencies help people to help themselves in achieving self-sufficiency.
Q: Do you help individuals and families at risk of homelessness? A: There are times when people need special assistance in providing for basic, essential needs. We offer supportive services in the form of food pantries, gas vouchers, bus tokens, medical prescription assistance, and eviction/utility shut-off prevention.
Q: : How do I find out more about your programs? A: Monthly orientations, for our Transitions to Independence (TIP) and Save Up to Step Out (IDA) programs, are held on the second Thursday of each month. The IDA + TIP orientation is from 1:00 pm – 2:00 pm. Please call 719.385.7910 for orientation location. There is no cost for the orientations.
Q: Who qualifies for PPCAA's services? A: PPCAA serves low-income individuals and families. Applicants are considered based on various guidelines pertaining to annual income, disabilities or disadvantages, family crisis, and migrant status. For more specific information, please call or visit your local PPCAA community outreach centers to start an application.
Q: Do you offer long-term case management? A: Yes, PPCAA offers a direct, hands-on approach to helping clients move out of poverty and obtain self-sufficiency. A client counselor works with the individual or family to develop an individualized case plan. The case plan is designed to address any barriers confronting the participant's attainment of self-sufficiency, such as inadequate housing, underemployment, and issues of meeting basic needs. The case management process involves self-assessment and goal setting.
Q: What are PPCAA's hours of operation? A: Most offices are open during regular business hours of 9am-5pm, Monday through Friday. The main office is open 8:30am - 4:30pm.
